A&L Administrative Assistant
General office work including filing, copying, shredding, running errands, deliveries, and record keeping. Maintain Department office supply inventory. Miscellaneous tasks as assigned by the Asst. to the Director of Operations and the Director of Operations. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
5-10 hours per week. Starting hourly rate: $9.00
A&L Development Assistant
Assist the Senior Development Director, Development Directors and Assistant to the Senior Development Director. This person reports to the A&L Development Team. Assist with donor and other Arts & Lectures mailings. Maintain guest lists and other duties as assigned to support fund-raising events. Office duties i.e. photocopying, filing, sorting. Other duties as assigned by the Development Team. Excellent verbal and written communications skills, ability to organize and prioritize work, and ability to work independently with little supervision required. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, and Database software (preferred).
5-10 hours per week. Starting hourly rate: $9.00
A&L Marketing Assistant
Track, clip and scan stories from local media about A&L and its events. Enter and maintain Arts & Lectures’ event listings on numerous online community calendars. Research opportunities for marketing events. Other duties as assigned. Keen attention to details, excellent verbal and written communications skills, ability to organize and prioritize work, and ability to work independently required. Some previous knowledge of the performing arts, culture, current events and area media outlets is helpful. Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PDFs and photo editing programs preferred. Having your own car a plus (but not required).
10-15+ hours per week. Starting hourly rate: $9.00
A&L Multimedia Assistant
The Multimedia Assistant will work under the direction of the Director of Marketing and the Marketing Associate in the following capacities: Act as point person to obtain permissions and serve as photographer/videographer to document and archive Arts & Lectures educational outreach and promotional events. Create marketing presentations and short films. Provide support for graphic design projects, social media promotions and cataloguing of publicity images. Must be able to collaborate and take direction but work independently on projects as assigned. The ideal candidate will possess a working familiarity with MS Word, Excel, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator and have the ability to learn new programs and skills as needed (e.g. Apple iMovie, GarageBand, etc.). Photography, film and/or graphic design portfolio samples required with application. Have your own car a plus (but not required).
10-15+ hours per week. Starting Hourly Rate: $11.50
A&L Programming Assistant
The Programming Assistant provides critical administrative support to the Programming team. Responsibilities include clerical work (e.g. filing, spreadsheets, and mailings), campus outreach, social media marketing support and other general administrative duties as assigned by the Programming Manager.
10 hours per week. Starting hourly rate: $9.00
A&L Publicity Distribution Team
Post and distribute Arts & Lectures flyers, posters, brochures and calendars on campus and in Isla Vista,
Goleta, Santa Barbara and Montecito. Expand and refine distribution routes. Involves significant
responsibility for the public visibility of the Arts & Lectures program and its events. Requires initiative,
timeliness, self-motivation and physical energy. Comfortable shoes will be useful. Some in-office work
may be required during regular business hours. Campus and Isla Vista routes are walked or biked. For
Goleta, Santa Barbara and Montecito routes must be able to drive, have your own car and provide proof
of auto insurance; gas mileage is reimbursed.
4-10 hours per week. Starting hourly rate: $9.00
A&L Ticket Office Assistant
Sell tickets for all Arts & Lectures events. Primary contact with the public for Arts & Lectures. Provide
phone and in-person customer service regarding shows, films and ticket sales. Use complex computer
ticketing system requiring good judgment and detail skills. Resolve problems and answer complex
questions. Must be able to work well with the public and on the phone. Math and strong computer skills
required, as well as accurate handling of money and tickets.
Evening and weekends required.
8-12 hours per week. Starting hourly rate: $9.00
A&L Technical Ticket Office Assistant
Create spreadsheets and enter data into the ticketing database. Update all aspects of constituency
records; identify and resolve conflicts. Work closely with supervisor to determine the correct application
of data. Must be very accurate, able to verify accuracy of data entry, and revise data when needed. Have
strong Excel and Word skills. Create summary and workflow documents reflecting information in a
meaningful manner for marketing review.

A&L Ticket Office Weekend/Holiday Manager
The Ticket Office Weekend/Holiday Managers are responsible for covering all weekend and working holiday
shifts. The Weekend Manager supervises and trains student assistants on weekends and as needed for
weekday shifts. Responsible for calculating and maintaining an accurate accounting of time worked on
student time cards. Oversees and completes assigned projects during weekend and weekday shifts. Able to
interpret and maintain ticket office rules and regulations; has superior customer service skills to manage
customer problems and concerns and refers issues to supervisor as appropriate.
8-20 hours per week. Starting Hourly Rate: $11.50
A&L Ticket Office Event Specialist
The Ticket Office Event Specialists work all campus evening and holiday events. The Event Specialist
prepares all paperwork, signage, tickets, and banks for night and weekend campus events. The Event
Specialist is responsible for ensuring appropriate staffing levels and adjustments to the schedules if
needed and for the punctuality of all evening cashiers. Must be able to interpret and maintain ticket office
rules and regulations. The Event Specialist supervises door sales and Will Call distribution and makes
decisions regarding any exceptions to policy. Must have superior customer service skills and be able to
problem solve for patrons and respond to A&L managers’ special requests at the event. Oversees the event close out process and ensures accuracy of all transactions.
8-20 hours per week. Starting Hourly Rate: $13.00
A&L Event Staff
Work as a team to bring major events to campus and the community and serve as the face of Arts & Lectures at all events. Take tickets and seat patrons for performances, films, and lectures. Sell merchandise and concession, reconcile income. Assist patrons throughout events and restore theater afterwards. Must become knowledgeable about Arts & Lectures programs, be able to communicate effectively and courteously with people of all identities and backgrounds, be able to think on your feet, and be able to work as part of a team. Neat appearance and dependability are essential. Provide own work clothes: black pants or skirt and a white shirt with collar. Assist with artists’ transportation and serve backstage, including all hospitality needs: laundering and ironing artists’ costumes, moving equipment, translating, and providing backstage catering.
Evening and weekend hours. Occasionally required to work during University breaks.
4-15 hours per week. Starting hourly rate: $9.00
A&L Assistant House Manager and Performing Arts House Manager
Direct house management at performances, lectures, and films. Interview, hire, and supervise ushers and volunteers and assign work schedules. Prepare theatres for events and supervise post-performance clean-up and closing of building. Assist the Performing Arts Manager and Associate Director in other tasks related to the presentation of the A&L program. Must become knowledgeable about Arts & Lectures programs, must be able to think on your feet, to lead a team and to communicate effectively with people from all backgrounds.
8-20 hours per week. Evening and weekend hours plus some office work during regular business hours. Occasionally required to work during University breaks and summer quarter.

Assistant House Manager starting hourly rate: $11.50
Performing Arts House Manager starting hourly rate: $13.00
Work as a team to bring major events to campus and the community and serve as the face of Arts & Lectures at events. Take tickets at the door, hand out programs and seat patrons for on-campus performances, film screenings and ticketed lectures. Volunteer ushers are on duty for 60-75 minutes prior to the start of an event until 30 minutes after it begins and again for a few minutes during and after intermission. When not working, they may take seats (as available) and enjoy the show. Volunteer ushers must become knowledgeable about A&L programs and be able to communicate effectively and courteously with A&L patrons. Neat appearance and dependability are essential. Ushers are asked to provide their own work clothes: black (no denim) pants or skirt and a white shirt with collar. Bilingual Spanish/English is a plus. Evening and weekend hours.
