The Third Chapter – Passion, Risk and Adventure in the 25 Years After 50

“Sara Lawrence-Lightfoot is an exceedingly graceful narrative writer. She demonstrates by example what a human and clear-headed kind of social science might offer us.” The New Republic

Sara Lawrence-Lightfoot is the Emily Hargroves Fisher Professor of Education at Harvard University and the chair of the board of the MacArthur Foundation. A renowned and pioneering sociologist, she is the first African-American woman in Harvard’s history to have an endowed professorship named in her honor. The author of eight books including I’ve Known Rivers, her forthcoming work The Third Chapter challenges traditional images of aging to reveal how the years between 50 and 75 may be the most transformative and generative time in our lives.
