Ornette Coleman Quartet (2010 Season)

Fri, Nov 5, 2010 @ 8:00 PM, Campbell Hall

“One of the last of the truly imposing figures from a generation of jazz players that was full of them.” The New York Times

For more than five decades, saxophonist/composer Ornette Coleman has played a seminal role in American music. Identified with the “free jazz” movement of the 1960s, Coleman belongs to that rare breed of artists/thinkers whose influence extends far beyond the realm of their chosen medium. Most recently, Coleman received a Grammy® Award and a Pulitzer Prize for his live recording Sound Grammar, the first jazz work to be bestowed with the honor. The BBC declares this newest effort “proof that [Coleman] is as vital, vibrant, edgy, and imaginative as ever.”
