KCRW 106.9 Santa Barbara Presents
Santa Barbara Debut

“The prevailing tone of Gil’s songs is a ruminative sweetness, albeit one achieved via brainy harmonic and melodic gambits.” Los Angeles Times

Over his incredible four-decade career in music, international superstar Gilberto Gil has recorded more than 30 albums, winning multiple Grammy Awards and selling five million records along the way. Hailed as “one of the world’s greatest songwriters” (The New York Times) and a beloved singer of the people, Gil has modernized Brazilian popular music and tirelessly championed its rich, multi-faceted culture throughout the world, not least as Brazil’s former minister of culture. Appearing with his seven-piece band, he’ll play hits from his latest album, Fé na Festa, which reinvents baião, the infectious, celebratory dance music of Northeast Brazil.

Available on the World Music series
