“A must-see… one of the most important living painters shows how he does it.” The Hollywood Reporter

One of the world’s greatest living painters, Gerhard Richter has spent over half a century experimenting with a tremendous range of ideas and techniques in his enigmatic artwork. This fly-on-the-wall documentary provides one of the first glimpses inside the notoriously reclusive artist’s studio in decades. In “mesmerizing” (Los Angeles Times) footage, the 79-year-old German painter thrillingly creates abstract masterpieces before our eyes, revealing his ingenious process as he mixes layer upon layer of bold colors, smears the paint with a giant squeegee and scrapes away at the canvas. Includes rare archival footage and intimate conversations with Richter’s critics and collaborators. (Corinna Belz, 2011, 97 min.)
